  1. I have issues with this event - I dont think its a good use of time, energy, focus, scarce funds and its not likely to attract broad participation - cost of attendance, timing, seems geared mostly to educators when we need to be building partnerships between parents and teachers... most importantly, it doesnt build in the momentum of last summer's SOS event... IMO, its too much a talkfest (like a union conference!) and not enough action, and the format doesnt lead to the likelihood of action being planned/implemented.... HOWEVER, ITS BETTER THAN NOTHING, I GUESS .... so, if you can -GO!!!

  2. Sahila's endorsement of the SOS Conference is easily the worst one I've ever read. Those who come to the event in D.C. and hear speakers like Shanta Driver, Deborah Meier, Jonathan Kozol, Nancy Carlsson Paige, and Rose Sanders are not likely to be disappointed. There will also be parent/teacher workshops on issues of importance to both. Finally, if Sahila or anyone else has better ideas about building the national movement to SAVE OUR SCHOOLS, they can come and play a role in decision making. It beats the hell out being sideline critics. In other words -- it's definitely better than nothing, Sahila.
