Chicago meeting demands end to school closings

300 parents and teachers met over the weekend to demand an end mayoral control of the schools and especially to school closings under Mayor Daley's Renaissance 2010 policies. Daley and his appointed schools boss, Ron Huberman, are expected to announce a new round of closings this month. (Chicago Catalyst)

WBEZ interviews one of those teachers, Carol Caref from Chicago Vocational Career Academy, who fears all staff at her South Side high school may soon be replaced in a so-called turnaround. CVCA was one of the receiver schools that saw a spike in school violence directly as a result of Ren10 school closings of other area high schools.
