Unions propose new Chicago small school

Chicago’s school board will vote up or down, October 22nd, on a proposed union-initiated and union-led small school. A new non-profit organization has been set up to run the school as a collaborative between the IFT and SEIU. It’s not clear as to whether the new school will come in as a charter or a contract school since all Chicago charters now available under state law have been used up.

Union membership has essentially been barred from Chicago’s Renaissance 2010 charter schools. But schools CEO Arne Duncan voiced support for this new school on Chicago Public Radio.
