"As a veteran, as a soldier, I've seen firsthand the true cost of war. As we look at our choices as to who our next Commander-in-chief will be is to recognize the necessity to have a commander-in-chief who has foresight. Who exercises good judgment. Who looks beyond the consequences — who looks at the consequences of the actions that they are willing to take before they take those actions. So that we don't continue to find ourselves in these failures that have resulted in chaos in the Middle East and so much loss of life." -- Roll Call

  2. Well, I hate to disillusion all of the scholars who said Trump was quoting Mussolini.... but you had best go back to school..... You are showing your ignorance....
The saying "[It] is better to live one single day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep" does not find its origins in the oratory of Mussolini.
Rather, it was an army slogan first used by Italian soldiers in 1918 at the famous Battle of the Piave River during World War I.
After several days of fighting during which the Italian Army defeated Austria-Hungarian forces, the slogan was found scrawled on a house that had been damaged during the conflict. After that time, the slogan was widely associated with the bravery of the Italian Army.
The wall on which the slogan was initially written in 1918 has been preserved and to this day is housed at the Fagarè della Battaglia, an Italian military memorial:

  3. Bill,
Thanks for the insult. All of us could use an occasional comeuppance from a brilliant guy like you. But I think you've been watching a little too much Sean Hannity.

As with most famous quotations, this one's actual source is debatable. I've heard it attributed to Mussolini as well as his fellow Italian soldiers and an unknown farmer at Piave River. Have you considered that maybe Mussolini himself scrawled that message on the house? I'll leave that one to historians like you and Sean.

All that misses the point. That being, when Trump was told the quote came from Il Duce, he responded:

“It’s OK to know it was Mussolini, Mussolini is Mussolini. It’s a very good quote. It’s a very interesting quote…What difference does it make, whether it’s Mussolini or somebody else?"

Trump was led to believe he was quoting the fascist leader and had no problem with that. Just like he had no problem faking ignorance about his endorsement from former KKK leader David Duke.

The point is, no matter where the quote originated, Donald Trump is a fascist Rube. No getting around it.
