How Mayor Bloomberg celebrated the 4th

'It's for the kids'

Bloomberg celebrated the birth of our constitutional democracy by slamming the State Supreme Court for "interpreting the law" and for ruling that his closing of 19 N.Y. schools was illegal.

In a Wall St. Journal article yesterday, Bloomberg admits he broke the law but claims that the court should have looked at the "bigger picture" since he did it for the kids.
"We're playing with children's lives, not whether the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed," Mr. Bloomberg said. "They should look at the context of it, and for them to think, 'Well, you know, I'm just here to interpret the law,' that's not true. They are part of society."

  1. Doubtless they should ignore the law, just as he and Joel Klein do. They should also ignore the public, which I saw in force at various hearings, slamming the closings while the Deputy Chancellor sat and fiddled with his Blackberry under the table. Particularly interesting was when a Jamaica High School student called him on it. The hearings brought people almost 100% opposed to the closings, and Bloomberg's minions ignored them all.

He has contempt for the people, contempt for the courts, and every day I walk into a crumbling trailer behind a building at 200% capacity, his contempt for the kids is palpable. I don't know how he sleeps at night.
