Hours after rebuffing parents and voting to shut 19 public schools, education officials announced plans to end most programs at Alfred E. Smith High in the Bronx and replace them with a charter school. That charter school, however, has its own troubled history. Read the rest here.
The DN carried another Gonzalez story on Wednesday, "Public sentiment has turned against Mayor Bloomberg's dictatorial school reforms" following the all-night protest against the mayor's school closing.
Hey Mike, This is Stella. I am now working at Henry Ford Academy Charter school. I think that the new way to go might be charter schools. Traditional schools are not doing the job. Hope to here from you and sue.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you Stella. After all those years at Robeson, Henry Ford must be a nice change. But what about all the kids still at Robeson? With good teachers like you leaving for the charters (yes Mr. Duncan, there are good teachers in inner-city schools), what will happen to them? Lifting cap on charters doesn't answer that question. Why wouldn't they help us or even let us create good small schools there at Robeson? Best of luck in your future work.
