Pushing the "business model" in Rockford
Paul Vallas, who is still running the schools in New Orleans, has also been feathering his nest up in Illinois through his consulting firm, Synesi and Associates.
His first stop was in Peoria. And now it’s on to Rockford where Vallas has fractured the school board by pushing for a Broad Academy-trained business type over local school leaders, to replace former superintendent Dennis Thompson. Thompson left the district for Naples, Florida in 2007..
Rockford board members are divided over a plan to bring in a chain of charter school operators from Chicago. Vallas, who's planning to return to Chicago and run for county board president as a Republican, has been in the forefront of bringing privatizatized charters to Philadelphia and New Orleans.
