WEEKEND QUOTABLES -- Election post mortem

Leonard Cohen (1934-2016)
Ring the bells that still can ring / Forget your perfect offering / There is a crack, a crack in everything / That's how the light gets in -- Anthem
Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla)
“I’ve been on the phone with giddy Republicans for about 48 hours now. Everybody assumed we’d come back and be the firewall [against a President Hillary Clinton], and now we see the opportunity to be the point of the spear.” -- Washington Post
Bernie Sanders
In the coming days, I will also provide a series of reforms to reinvigorate the Democratic Party. I believe strongly that the party must break loose from its corporate establishment ties and, once again, become a grass-roots party of working people, the elderly and the poor. We must open the doors of the party to welcome in the idealism and energy of young people and all Americans who are fighting for economic, social, racial and environmental justice. -- New York Times Magazine
Author Teju Cole
Evil settles into everyday life when people are unable or unwilling to recognize it. -- A time for refusal
Rahm Emanuel
"I want to assure all of our families that Chicago is and will remain a Sanctuary City. Chicago has been a city of immigrants since it was founded. We have always welcomed people of all faiths and backgrounds, and while the administration will change, our values and our commitment to inclusion will not." -- DNAinfo
Filmmaker Michael Moore
“They all have to go. And they have to make room for the progressive Democrats who are going to come in here, are going to be needed to fight the things that Trump is going to do to the people of this country and the world.” -- CNN
Words of the prophets...

  1. Thanks for your blog posts, Mike, & especially for your involvement at Standing Rock, reporting from & involving students & your header, above.
I have been traveling, & it's started to make newspapers (The Sacramento Bee & The New Orleans Times-Picayune), but, of course, the reporting is off (didn't much mention the rubber bullets & pepper-spraying; did mention arrests & D.A. machine destruction {perpetrated, of course, by the water protectors}). Guess no one has the guts to report it like Democracy Now! or--gasp!--RT. Anyway, appreciate access to the NYT Sanders piece. Also--& I posted a comment on Diane Ravitch's Blog RE" Michael Moore, who I have admired & followed ever since "Roger & Me." In my comment, I'd mentioned seeing him w/my teenaged daughter at Northwestern--huge crowd at the former Ryan-Welch
(sp.-?) Stadium (forgot what it's now called!). PR people said no autographs, no pics, & Morre said, "No!" to that--sat around doing them for a good, long time--I have a picture of him shaking my daughter's hand, autographing, "Dude, Where's My Country?" So--have been a big fan. That having been said, my fellow Bernie supporters & I had been rather upset that he didn't go all out for Bernie--& early on. That really would have helped tremendously. Anyway, a commenter on Diane's Blog (from NORWAY, no less--nothing like getting the U.S. story from those in other countries--which is, actually, WHY I watch RT
{& BBC America, as well}--talk about 'Google "Fake News"'--can't get the real story from our msm--see above, RE: No DAPL actions)stated that
Mr. Moore's agent is none other than Ari Emanuel. Didn't know that.
Anyway, if any readers (or you) get the chance to encounter Moore, please ask him if he can switch & then wholeheartedly be involved in promoting DNC leadership change--& he really has to do it ASAP.

  2. OH--P.S.--is anyone else disgusted by those who have "thrown their hats in" & are vying for DNC positions of leadership? Howard Dean, your 15 minutes are up--& have been for a looong time.
How about your brother, Jim (ardent Bernie supporter), since you are so "concerned" about Rep. Ellison not being able to do two jobs effectively?!

  3. Just read that Rep. Ellison announced he'll seek DNC Chairmanship--GREAT!
